MBiol Member of the Royal Society of Biology

In a career spanning 13 years, I have taught Biology at some of the best schools in the country: St Edward’s Oxford, KCS Wimbledon, Dulwich College and Repton School, leading the department at Dulwich and Repton.

I am passionate about sharing my love for Biology with my students and ensuring they achieve success in the subject. The sessions I deliver are tailored to the student’s needs and desired outcomes, with bespoke resources and tasks to achieve the best results.

My Ethos

I have been fortunate enough to work at some of the best schools in the country, developing my craft and constantly adapting and improving. Biology is the science that allows us to understand the world around us and it is only through this understanding that we can enact change for the better. I want to inspire students to be curious about nature and to want to learn about the inner workings of life.

Students find Biology difficult for a variety of different reasons, from the volume of content there is to learn, to not knowing the tips and tricks to embedding the learning or just finding it hard. My job is to uncover the issue and help to solve it. In my sessions, students actively go through the content with expert, detailed explanations of the complex concepts, but are also embedded with learning and revision tips that your child will be able to use beyond our sessions.

The first step in my process is to meet with you and your child so that we can talk through what your desired outcomes are and create a detailed plan of action. We will look at the variety of services that I offer and choose the right one for your child; whether it is ad hoc sessions when they feel like they need that little bit of extra support, or more regular sessions to supplement classroom lessons, or an intense revision course in the holidays to boost their grade. Your child will be fully supported at every step in order to meet their goals.

Deep understanding

We navigate the core concepts so that you are confident in every topic.

Exam impact

You’ll learn revision tips and tricks so that you retain your understanding and can perform in exam situations.

Above and beyond

You receive a report after each session detailing what topics were covered, how your child progressed, and what’s next.

My Story

I graduated with a BSc in Natural Sciences (Biology and Psychology) from the University of Birmingham before completing my PGCE in Secondary Science (Biology) at the University of Oxford. I went on to complete an MSc in Learning and Teaching (Education), also at Oxford, further strengthening my academic grounding in both biological science and educational theory. Whilst there, I won three varsity matches playing for the University of Oxford Blues rugby team. Throughout my career, I have maintained a strong commitment to evidence-informed practice, drawing on educational research to shape curriculum design, assessment, and feedback.

I trained in, and have worked extensively within, academically ambitious schools serving a range of communities. I am currently Head of Biology at Repton School, where I teach across Key Stages 3–5 and lead departmental strategy, curriculum development, assessment design, and staff mentoring. Under my leadership, both Repton and Dulwich achieved sustained academic success, while also placing strong emphasis on intellectual curiosity, independent learning, and enrichment beyond the examination syllabus.

Alongside my school leadership role, I have significant experience in tutoring and online education, working with pupils across GCSE and A-Level Biology, including Oxbridge and medical school applicants. My teaching is characterised by clarity, intellectual rigour, and a determination to make complex biological concepts accessible without oversimplification. I am a Member of the Royal Society of Biology (MBiol), reflecting my continued engagement with the discipline beyond the classroom.

Beyond education, I am Contingent Commander of the Combined Cadet Force at Repton and serve as an officer in the Royal Navy Reserve in my spare time. These experiences strongly inform my approach to leadership, responsibility, and professional development, and I regularly draw on leadership theory and historical case studies to inform my work both in and beyond the classroom.

Outside of my professional work, I am an active beekeeper, maintaining my own hives and frequently using beekeeping as a real-world context through which to explore ecological and biological concepts. I live in the English countryside with my wife Rachel, where my interests in fieldwork, outdoor education, and applied biology continue to shape my teaching and wider educational practice.
